  • The Association of American Educators (AAE) is a 501(c)(6) professional association serving educators, school staff, administrators, and professors in all fifty states since 1994. MyLocalPLUS from AAE is an informational project and free services to support independent local-only educator associations. Individual educators, school staff, administrators, and professors can join AAE at any time and can learn more at www.joinaae.org.

  • An independent local-only educator association is similar to any other local educator association but without affiliation to a state or national labor organization. Dues and decisions remain only at the local level.

  • Any school community with a local association affiliated with state or national labor organizations can explore forming an independent local-only educator association. The process is similar to forming a local association and an independent local-only educator association has all of the same rights and privileges as the pre-existing local association.

  • Educators are increasingly reclaiming their district by switching to local-only educator associations to better serve their colleagues and school community. Free from politics and high dues, local-only educator associations can be effective, positive partners advocating for educators and students.

    A local-only association sets a dues rate and policies that best serve their school community—this often means saving money and providing better support and services for educators.

  • Although the process will differ by state, in most cases the process is the same as when a local association was formed in the first place: employees sign cards indicating they want to vote on a union, an election is scheduled, if the local association wins they now represent the employees for bargaining.
